Background
Europe’s security situation is characterised by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, hybrid threats and growing geopolitical tensions. These uncertainties not only present us with military challenges, but also confront us as a society as a whole with the question: How resilient are we – in terms of military defence capabilities and civil emergency preparedness? And what contribution can each and every one of us make towards greater security and cohesion – in Europe, Germany and Saxony?
The launch event for a new series of events explores this question through four perspectives on security: military, state-civilian, European and individual/societal. How can we organise defence and civil protection in a way that is sustainable and forward-looking? What can we learn from Finland and other European partners in this regard? How do we address the risks posed by increasing militarisation? And what responsibility do the state, institutions and citizens bear for security, cohesion and democratic resilience?
